Gold prices could drop to support at $1,456, the candlestick pattern on the daily chart indicates.

On Thursday, the yellow metal closed below $1,466 – the low of the Wednesday's Doji candle – confirming a bearish reversal. Put simply, the corrective bounce from the Nov. 12 low of $1,445 has ended and the bears have regained control.

Moreover, technical indicators on the daily chart have struggled to recover from the negative territory and reinforce prospects for an extension of the recent pullback from multi-year tops. Hence, some follow-through weakness, towards $1457-55 support zone en-route monthly swing lows around the $1445 region, remains a distinct possibility.

The ounce of gold is preparing to test the $1450 an ounce support, and the improved sovereign bond yields could push the precious metal off the edge. A key support is seen at $1447, the major 38.2% Fibonacci retracement on June – September rise. A move below this level should indicate a medium term bearish reversal and encourage a further retreat toward $1410, the 50% level.
