Like the F.I markets demand has failed to take Gold outside of last Thursday’s parameters and so immediate signals for sentiment remain weak. However it is the failure to break the top of Thursday’s range that suggests the rally is a temporary one. A good deal of caution is needed but this morning’s call is a Sell but leaving room to Sell any Rally to 1433.7, Thursday’s top. The risk is 1446.4, July 19th open, with an immediate target of 1422.2, yesterday's low. A move through that point then exposes sentiment to 1415.7, Monday’s base, or even 1411.0, last week's bottom.

During Tuesday, the XAU/USD exchange rate jumped to the psychological level at 1,432.00. During Wednesday's morning, the rate was testing the given level.

It is expected, that gold could continue to appreciate against the US Dollar in the short run, as the rate is supported by the 55-, 100– and 200-hour moving averages, currently located in the 1,423.00/1,425.67 range.

On the other hand, the price for gold could consolidate in the cluster between the psychological levels at 1,428.00 and 1,432.00 respectively. Also, it is unlikely, that the rate could tumble lower than 1,420.00 due to the support of the lower line of the rising wedge pattern.

Gold rose 1.65 percent on Tuesday ahead of the end of the Fed’s FOMC meeting on Wednesday. The heavily anticipated interest rate cut by the Fed is already priced into the value of gold, but there is still plenty of speculation on how dovish Fed Chair Powell will be during his press conference. Economic indicators in the US have remained solid, although there are small signs of the economy losing momentum but given the global growth forecasts it could lead to the Fed having to do go back to a patient stance despite the pressure from the White House.

Gold will look for direction in the tone of the Fed Chief’s rhetoric. More dovish could lead to a weaker dollar and a higher price for gold, but neutral to hawkish comments on the economy could lead to a rebound in the dollar putting downward pressure on the metal.
