Gold made a major reversal two weeks ago at $1,346 after forming an upside-down hammer candlestick which is a strong reversing signal. The reversal came as a bit of a surprise nonetheless because Gold had been on a bullish trend since last September and it gained more pace, breaking some major resistance indicators in January and February.

This week Gold has traded between $1,282-3 and $1,290 more or less. So, we can see that it has formed a range this week between these two levels, which seems pretty narrow considering the big move we have seen in previous weeks. But, it’s enough to trade, since it means a 70-80 pip range.

It was really good that market did not slip below 1525 otherwise it was going to head towards 1480 level, and the recovery was really good upto 1578 level where it got some resistance, now it has already corrected and is trading around 1565 where fresh buying may come and this time it may cross 1578 and enter into 1590-1600 range again.

On the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, gold futures for December delivery settled at USD1,755.25 a troy ounce by close of trade on Friday, losing 0.9% on the day.

Earlier in the session prices touched a daily low of USD1,753.75 a troy ounce, the weakest level since September 26. On the week, gold futures declined 1.5%, the biggest weekly drop since the last week of June.

Gold futures were likely to find support at USD1,739.35 a troy ounce, the low from September 26 and resistance at USD1,781.55, the high from October 8.

Market players remained cautious amid ongoing uncertainty over Spain�s position on requesting external financial aid from its euro zone partners following a down****e by ratings agency Standard & Poor�s.

Gold failed to capitalize on the previous session's post-NFP goodish up-move to one-week tops and traded with a mild negative bias through the early European session on Monday.

With investors looking past the latest disappointment from the headline NFP, a goodish pickup in the US Treasury bond yields turned out to be one of the key factors exerting some fresh downward pressure on the non-yielding yellow metal at the start of a new trading week.

Meanwhile, positive US bond yields also extended some support to the US Dollar, which coupled with improving risk sentiment, as depicted by a positive trading sentiment around equity markets dampened the precious metal's perceived safe-haven demand and added to a mildly weaker tone.

The downside, however, remained limited, at least for the time being, amid prolonged uncertainty over Britain's exit from the European Union ahead of Tuesday's meaningful parliament vote and the fast-approaching deadline on March 29.

Moving ahead, today's US economic docket, highlighting the release of monthly retail sales data, might influence the USD price dynamics and eventually produce some meaningful trading opportunities around the dollar-denominated commodity later during the early North-American session.

Technical levels to watch

Immediate support is pegged near the $1294-93 region, below which the commodity is likely to accelerate the slide towards the $1286 intermediate support en-route last week's swing lows, around the $1281-80 area. On the flip side, sustained move beyond the key $1300 psychological mark could get extended towards the $1304-05 horizontal hurdle, which if cleared might lift the metal further towards testing the $1314-15 supply zone.

Yesterday’s slightly weaker US inflation data weighed on the dollar and this helped to maintain the recent short-term bullish trend for the buck-denominated precious and some base metals like copper. The metals have extended their gains this morning, with gold hovering just above $1300 and silver trading around $15.50 per ounce.

The fact that more central banks turned dovish last week is a positive sign for metals. As government bond yields have been depressed further, this has boosted the appeal of low and noninterest-bearing assets such as gold and silver. Meanwhile, the Bank of Japan will be making its policy decision on Friday. It is difficult to see how the BoJ will get any more dovish, but it will do its best to keep the yen under pressure given the recent moves by other major central banks. If the BoJ remains dovish, then this should keep the metals supported.

But right now, the focus is firmly fixated on Brexit and after last night’s “meaningful vote” in UK parliament saw the government defeated again. Uncertainty from this source has not impacted the global stock markets much, but it may have provided some tailwind to safe-haven assets.

Technically, gold needs to reclaim that pivotal $1300 level in a decisive way before we can talk bullishly about prices again, and so far, it is doing a good job at that. The bulls have done well to defend that key support zone around $1285 we had highlighted previously HERE. Gold is now heading towards the next potential resistance around $1313, a former support level. The next point of reference above this level is at $1326, followed by this year’s high at $1346/7. Now that we are back above $1300, this level has resumed its role as being the first key support level to watch. If this level were to give way again then, in this case, we could see a more significant sell-off this time around.

As we have seen many shocking movement in gold last week, gold has toucjed many people stop losses because it opened with quick low as 1179 to flat down 1159 and after that it quickly come to 1174 which is no one think about it, no one think that this will made movement like this i have also lost some money in gold because i have taken stop loss on my trade.

I try to exploit breakouts of hourly inside bars and just messed it up... missed a clear entry on Dec 17th @1238 which was not touched by yesterday's FOMC news. It might have been THE entry for 2019!

Today there was another inside bar @1257 which "seemed" too expensive but it would be in profit right now. The next two weeks will have low liquidity but it's the moment to buy on any dip.

Either if the FED stops hiking or not, the trouble is already made. No more hikes: short-term positive for gold. Further hikes: could be negative at first, but it will speed up another market crash and gold would go up sooner of later.

I believe in the coming big crash, as people like Peter Schiff, Marc Faber and Francis Hunt announce all the time - not because those guys are so trustworthy, but because I believe such crashes are meant to happened and the market cycles are engineered in order to transfer wealth. To short stocks and buy gold are the best ways to go when the time is ripe.
