The EMA50 forms negative factor now and supports the suggested decline, which will remain valid and active unless the price managed to breach 1252.00 followed by 1270.00 levels and hold above them.

Gold prices in India were marginally higher today but sharply off their record highs hit on Friday. On MCX, August gold futures were trading marginally higher at ₹34,608. On Friday, gold futures hit a record high of ₹35,100, before paring some gains. In Budget 2019, which was presented on Friday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman increased import duty on gold to 12.5%, from 10%, leading to a spike in domestic gold prices. But record high gold prices could not be sustained amid weak global prices and sluggish demand at higher levels.

2. Following tensions between the United States and Iran, Iran said on Sunday that it would soon raise uranium enrichment activities above the upper limit of a landmark nuclear deal in 2015. US President Trump warned Iran to "be careful."

Stronger-than-expected U.S. non-farm payrolls data for June on Friday reduced the likelihood of a big rate cut at the federal reserve's July 30-31 meeting and sent the dollar to a three-week high.

However, the fed is still expected to cut rates by 25 basis points as wage gains are modest and other economic data suggest the economy is losing momentum.

Gold hit $1,438.63 last month for the first time in six years and has been trading above key technical levels, supported by expectations of interest rate cuts by major central Banks and lingering doubts about the global economy.

XAU/USD tumbled on Friday, breaking below the short-term upside support line drawn from the low of May 30th. Then, the metal rebounded somewhat, but the bears took charge again from near that line and pushed it lower. The fact that the price remained below the upside line paints a somewhat negative picture, but we prefer to wait for a clear break below 1382 before we start examining the case of a complete bearish reversal.

Such a dip would confirm the completion of a “double top” pattern on both the 4-hour and daily charts and may encourage the bears to step on the accelerator and push towards the 1358 area, marked by the inside swing high of June 14th. Now, if that level is not able to halt the slide, its break may allow more bearish extensions, perhaps paving the way towards the low of June 19th, at around 1341, or the low of June 17th, near 1333.


Both the RSI and the MACD suggest that the yellow metal may have the necessary momentum for breaking below 1382, and thereby completing a double top. The RSI lies below 50 and looks to be heading towards 30, while the MACD stands below both its zero and trigger lines, pointing south as well.

On the upside, we would like to see a strong recovery above 1425 before we abandon the bearish case. Such a move would bring the price back above the aforementioned upside line and may initially target the 1438 key resistance zone, marked by the peak of July 3rd and fractionally below the high of June 25th. That said, we would like to see a clear close above that area before we get confident on the resumption of the prevailing uptrend. Such a move would confirm a forthcoming higher high and would drive the metal into territories last tested in May 2013, perhaps aiming for highs of April that year, at around 1487.

Gold fails to make new highs again

Gold is a little higher again on Friday but we've seen further signs this week that the run may be experiencing some exhaustion. Last week a strong rally ended just short of the previous peak and the same happened yesterday, raising the question of whether it has the legs to see it higher in the near-term, or if the correction flags are waving.

The key level below remains $1,380, which it's seen support around on a couple of occasions recently. A break below here may signal that a sharper correction is on the cards. It may not be straightforward though as we failed to break this earlier this week also, suggesting there is some indecision and possible consolidation on the cards.

, technical indicators on the daily chart maintained their bullish bias and further reinforce the constructive outlook, though have struggled to gain positive traction on hourly charts and seemed to be the only factor holding investors from placing fresh bullish bets.

Meanwhile, the 100-period SMA on the 4-hourly chart now seemed to act as a key pivotal point, below which the precious metal could extend the pullback further below the key $1400 psychological mark towards testing the triangle support, currently near the $1389-87 region.
A convincing break through the mentioned support will negate any near-term bullish bias, confirming that the commodity might have actually topped out in the near-term and setting the stage for a further depreciating move back towards testing the $1348-46 horizontal support zone.

On the flip side, bullish traders are likely to wait for a sustained move beyond the triangle resistance, currently near the $1425 region, above which the yellow metal is likely to surpass multi-year highs resistance near the $1440 level and aim towards reclaiming the $1500 round figure mark.

technical indicators on the daily chart maintained their bullish bias and further reinforce the constructive outlook, though have struggled to gain positive traction on hourly charts and seemed to be the only factor holding investors from placing fresh bullish bets.

Meanwhile, the 100-period SMA on the 4-hourly chart now seemed to act as a key pivotal point, below which the precious metal could extend the pullback further below the key $1400 psychological mark towards testing the triangle support, currently near the $1389-87 region.
A convincing break through the mentioned support will negate any near-term bullish bias, confirming that the commodity might have actually topped out in the near-term and setting the stage for a further depreciating move back towards testing the $1348-46 horizontal support zone.

On the flip side, bullish traders are likely to wait for a sustained move beyond the triangle resistance, currently near the $1425 region, above which the yellow metal is likely to surpass multi-year highs resistance near the $1440 level and aim towards reclaiming the $1500 round figure mark.
