Gold Is In a New Bull Market — and It’s Heading a Lot Higher

The price of gold has gained 9.6% to $1404.30 an ounce this year, and my work projects the precious metal will move substantially higher from current levels as it starts a new bull market. The fundamentals and technicals are aligned for gold to maintain its upward trend in the coming months.
Let’s start with the fundamentals. Federal Reserve policy continues to be accommodative. Presidential pressuring ignites concerns that the Fed might lose its independence. (Do we really want to emulate Turkey, where President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sacked the central bank governor when he would not bow to Erdogan’s interest rate criticism?) Middle East tensions have risen, and Turkey is awaiting delivery of Russian S-400 missiles (which will compromise NATO’s military defense systems).
And then there’s the U.S. dollar, which is on the verge of declining. While the U.S. Dollar Index is down less than 2% from its high, my work confirmed a sell signal. The Dollar Index would accelerate lower, on a weekly close below 95.50.
Technically, gold began demonstrating relative strength versus the Dollar in December, as it began to advance in the face of dollar strength—the opposite of what should have happened.
In the May 30 issue of THE INSTITUTIONAL VIEW, when gold was trading at $1292, I said that gold’s pullback from resistance was a mild and bullish “a-b-c” (down, up, down). From an initial 1330 target, my work projected a major breakout from the 2.5-year base.
The weekly closing chart illustrates that each pullback was weaker than the prior one—leading to the upside breakout. Pausing at initial $1425-$1435 trendline resistance, the next resistance is $1485. Long-term, my work projects a $1600 objective.

Gold has been oscillating between two converging trend-lines over the past three trading sessions, forming a symmetrical triangle on the 1-hourly chart.
The triangle support - around the $1410 region, coincides with 100-hour SMA and should now act as a key pivotal point for short-term traders.
Given the recent bullish momentum since late-May, the triangle might still be categorized as a continuation pattern that marks a brief pause and thus, support prospects for a further near-term appreciating move.

Meanwhile, technical indicators on hourly/daily charts maintained their bullish bias and further reinforce the constructive outlook, though traders are likely to wait for a sustained move beyond the triangle resistance.


A convincing break through the mentioned barrier, currently near the $1417-18 region, the commodity is likely to accelerate the momentum further towards $1422-24 intermediate resistance en-route multi-year tops, around the $1438-40 region.

On the flip side, break below the $1410 confluence support might negate the bullish outlook and prompt some aggressive technical selling, turning the metal vulnerable to slide back below the key $1400 psychological mark.

GOLD

Gold has made a DT at 1437/39....Now this is not to say that the bull run is over in Gold, but what we could be seeing is a correction. Now what I said Monday still applies....the break point is 1380..so anywhere down there towards that area say 1385 you should see buyers coming into that area...

However I still think Gold is a buy, so what we could do is buy into 1405....add towards 1380 and place stops then below 1374...I know that it seems a long way off..but Gold has been winging about this past 4 weeks....so there is a chance that the market can come lower...on a correctionary basis only.
We have to take stock that Gold has first the first time in 6 years broken 1380...this is a massive step...If you look at the longer term charts that I have been posting onto the group you can see that this break is a big deal and the return to break point of 1380 re-enforces that the market has made a break topside...

If you look at the monthly charts you can see long term Gold is in a uptrend...yes we have been capped at 1380 for 6 years...but it isn't now....so even if you are a short term trader you still have to remember that you are buying dips....Technical indicators are neutral....so as I said...either we buy down to 1405/1380...or buy a break above 1444..that clears the short term DT and sees the market a lot higher.

Gold prices traded slightly lower on Wednesday during the Asian session at 1405.03 on robust U.S. retail sales data, while hopes of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve and broad uncertainties over trade between Washington and Beijing kept a lid on declines. Denting bullion’s appeal, the dollar index jumped yesterday after data showed that U.S. retail sales increased more than expected in June, adding to recent evidence that the economy is improving. However, this morning the dollar is trading stable to lower. Gold and the Greenback tend to move in opposite directions since the former is calculated in the latter.

Follow the trend is the key in big markets and even if there is a big reversal ongoing, notice my trade today from 1195 where BTC yesterday showed weakness on 4h chart and has since really nicely evolved. Now +100 pips, can easily lock at 50 profit and wait for some more move to maybe somewhere 1175 to collect full profit and then look on the price whether there is something bigger ongoing behind or this is just another retracement.

During the previous trading session, the XAU/USD exchange rate skyrocketed to the upper boundary of the short-term ascending channel at 1,431.00. During today's morning, the rate reversed south.

From a theoretical point of view, it is expected, that the price for gold could continue to decline. A possible downside target is the support cluster formed by the 55-, 100– and 200-hour SMAs, currently located in the 1,408.16/1,413.12 range.


On the other hand, the exchange rate could reverse north to re-test the upper channel line. It is unlikely, that the rate could exceed the 1,435.00 mark due to the upper boundary of the long-term ascending channel.
