Oil prices have a chance to strengthen in the short term after an optimistic statement from energy ministers Saudi Arabia and Iraq to balance the market. On this day investors are looking forward to reports of US rig activity for US production instructions.

For the technical side, the nearest resistance level is seen at 55.00 area, penetrating upwards from that level could trigger further upwards to 55.30 area before aiming to the 55.90 area. On the downside, the 54.60 area is the nearest support level, breaking down from that level could push further decline to the 54.30 level before aiming to the area of 53.70.

Oil prices have the potential to continue rising today after yesterday hitting the highest level since the summer of 2015 with geopolitical risk sentiment in the Middle East especially in Saudi Arabia with the measures taken by the government to support an extension of production cuts. Also on this day investors are also waiting for a report on oil reserves from the American Petroleum Institute released at the end of trading hours that analysts expect will be a decline in oil, gasoline and refined oil reserves.

The nearest resistance level is seen at the 57.60 area, penetrating upwards from that area could trigger further upwards to the 58.00 area before targeting the 58.60 area. Meanwhile for the downside, the 57.00 area becomes the nearest support point, a break below that area should be able to reverse the trend to be bearish targeting the next support at 56.60 before aiming to 56.00.

Oil prices have the potential to continue rising today after yesterday hitting the highest level since the summer of 2015 with geopolitical risk sentiment in the Middle East especially in Saudi Arabia with the measures taken by the government to support an extension of production cuts. Also on this day investors are also waiting for a report on oil reserves from the American Petroleum Institute released at the end of trading hours that analysts expect will be a decline in oil, gasoline and refined oil reserves.

The nearest resistance level is seen at the 57.60 area, penetrating upwards from that area could trigger further upwards to the 58.00 area before targeting the 58.60 area. Meanwhile for the downside, the 57.00 area becomes the nearest support point, a break below that area should be able to reverse the trend to be bearish targeting the next support at 56.60 before aiming to 56.00.

Oil prices rose on Tuesday in anticipation of further dollar softness and another drop in US crude inventories. The U.S. Federal Reserve started its July Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting and will wrap it up tomorrow at 2pm EDT with the release of its rate statement and the press conference by Fed Chair Jerome Powell. The market is fully pricing in a 25 basis points interest rate cut, but t the answers from Powell will weigh more on future dollar pricing as a less dovish outlook could lead to a dollar rebound.

West Texas Intermediate gained 2.06 percent and Brent 1.55 percent as a weaker dollar ahead of the Fed and trade optimism putting less downward pressure on crude. Comments from the White House have hinted that a deal won’t be announced, but the restart of negotiations could eventually lead to a positive outcome.

The tension in the Middle East continues to rise as the US wants to form an alliance with Germany, France and the UK to safeguard the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
