How much time we should spend in demo before going to live trading?

I think as a new trader we need to give good time to learn and practice forex trading at demo accounts and I think at least 3 months practice is needed to get understand the forex market and if we can trade with proper understanding only then we can start trading at real accounts.

I have demo traded for 6 months, then I started a real live account with only $100, to get the "feelings" of trading with real live money. However, I did not stop demo trading, and I decided to take a "challenge" for between me and myself. I continued to trade the same strategy on my demo account, as on my real account, and I tried to spot the differencies in my "trading psychology". I recognized that when I was trading on a real account, and I lost some money, it was a really bad feeling compared to losing when demo trading.
