There is no definite time, how long we have to in the demo account. In my experience, I practice on a demo account about 1 month. Then I tried the real account, it turns out a couple of times I lose. I'm not desperate. I practiced back in the demo account, about 2 months. Eventually, I began to understand that we can not quickly get bored to demo account. We must be patient, until we actually get.
