The Turkish lira continues to weaken and hit new lowest since Sep 2018 on Tuesday as rising demand for safe-haven greenback offsets the action of Turkish central bank. The CBRT cut interest rates today by 1%, bringing rate to single digit (9.75%) and announced a number of measures to be taken in the near future to keep the liquidity and cushion negative impact from corona virus outbreak. The pair extended steep ascend into seventh straight day and broke above important Fibo barrier at 6.3529 (Fibo 61.8% of pullback from all-time high at 7.1074 to 5.1323). Close above the latter would generate bullish signal for further extension of broader ascend from the higher base formed in Dec 2018/Jan 2019. Bulls eye Fibo barrier at 6.6413, which guards psychological 7.00 level. Corrective dips are expected to find ground above rising daily Tenkan-sen (6.2774) and former high of 2 Mar (6.2590).

News) - Goldman Sachs has reiterated its bullish stance on gold prices, issuing a research report titled “time to buy the currency of last resort.”
Analysts said the metal acts as a hedge against currency debasement at times when policymakers take drastic actions to deal with massive economic shocks, such as the one currently occurring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gold has been under pressure during the last couple of weeks. Like other firms, Goldman attributed this to market participants facing “severe funding constraints” as risk markets nose dived, meaning they were forced to sell liquid positions in gold and other commodities to generate cash. Further, the downdraft in oil prices led to dollar shortages in emerging economies, which could mean Russia’s central bank could shift from a gold buyer to seller, the bank said.

The Turkish lira continues to weaken and hit new lowest since Sep 2018 on Tuesday as rising demand for safe-haven greenback offsets the action of Turkish central bank. The CBRT cut interest rates today by 1%, bringing rate to single digit (9.75%) and announced a number of measures to be taken in the near future to keep the liquidity and cushion negative impact from corona virus outbreak. The pair extended steep ascend into seventh straight day and broke above important Fibo barrier at 6.3529 (Fibo 61.8% of pullback from all-time high at 7.1074 to 5.1323). Close above the latter would generate bullish signal for further extension of broader ascend from the higher base formed in Dec 2018/Jan 2019. Bulls eye Fibo barrier at 6.6413, which guards psychological 7.00 level. Corrective dips are expected to find ground above rising daily Tenkan-sen (6.2774) and former high of 2 Mar (6.2590).

In a statement Codelco said the 15-day suspension applied to remaining work being carried out to make Chuquicamata an underground mine, and projects at an early stage at Rajo Inca and Traspaso Andina.

Sibanye-Stillwater (NYSE:SBSW) said today it has begun implementing measures to place its SA gold and PGM operations under temporary care and maintenance.
