USD/TRY 1H Chart: Upside potential
The US Dollar has been appreciating against the Turkish Lira since the beginning of February when the exchange rate reversed from the psychological level at 5.2000.

As apparent on the chart, the currency pair is testing the resistance level at the 5.4800 mark. Given that the rate is being supported by the 55-, 100– and 200-hour SMAs, it is likely that some upside momentum prevails in the market. It is expected that the rate targets the Fibonacci 38.20% retracement at 5.8128.

It is the unlikely case that bears prevail in the market in the nearest future and the currency pair breaches the Fibonacci 61.80% retracement at 5.0298.

The US Dollar has been appreciating against the Turkish Lira since the beginning of February when the exchange rate reversed from the psychological level at 5.2000.

As apparent on the chart, the currency pair is testing the resistance level at the 5.4800 mark. Given that the rate is being supported by the 55-, 100– and 200-hour SMAs, it is likely that some upside momentum prevails in the market. It is expected that the rate targets the Fibonacci 38.20% retracement at 5.8128.

It is the unlikely case that bears prevail in the market in the nearest future and the currency pair breaches the Fibonacci 61.80% retracement at 5.0298.

USD/TRY is the abbreviation for the US Dollar and Turkish Lira pair. It shows how much the USD (base currency) is worth as measured against the TRY (counter currency). For example, USD/TRY = 3.601 indicates that one US Dollar can buy 3.601 Turkish Liras.
USD/TRY higher on political risks

TRY is losing further ground today following the recent decision by the country’s top election board to rerun the municipal elections in Istanbul on June 23. The decision comes after Erdogan’s party, the AKP, said there were irregularities after the opposition’s win on March 31.

The Lira therefore came under further selling pressure today as the likeliness of social unrest is running high amidst a deteriorated democratic scenario in the country.

TRY also remains offered since the latest CBRT meeting, where the central bank kept the One-Week Repo rate unchanged at 24.00%, although it has delivered a somewhat dovish message.
