USD/ZAR is what is referred to as an exotic pair in currency trading or forex trading, as the rand component (ZAR) is an emerging market currency which carries less liquidity than that of developed market currencies.
Exotic currencies, because they do carry lower liquidity than major most traded market currencies (the US dollar, Swiss franc, euro, British pound, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar and the Australian dollar), will carry a wider spread and in turn, a higher cost to trade. The below is the weekly chart of the USDZAR. We note that the EMAs are in a bullish stack. I.e. the green 5-week EMA is above the orange 13-week EMA, and the orange 13-week EMA is above the black 34-week EMA. Moreover, the EMAs are starting to show angle and separation. This implies an increase in the momentum of the bullish trend. Power issues by the state-owned utility Eskom are leading to outages in South Africa, which is creating turmoil in terms of general production and productivity. Moody’s is due to issue a ratings announcement on 29th March and a downgrade to junk status is a distinct possibility. The RSI(9) is above 50 and is indicative of an underlying bullish momentum. The longer the indicator stays on the bullish side of 50 the greater the likelihood of further USD appreciation against the ZAR.
Usd/Zar is bullish.

I.e. the green 5-week EMA is above the orange 13-week EMA, and the orange 13-week EMA is above the black 34-week EMA. Moreover, the EMAs are starting to show angle and separation. This implies an increase in the momentum of the bullish trend. Power issues by the state-owned utility Eskom are leading to outages in South Africa, which is creating turmoil in terms of general production and productivity. Moody’s is due to issue a ratings announcement on 29th March and a downgrade to junk status is a distinct possibility. The RSI(9) is above 50 and is indicative of an underlying bullish momentum. The longer the indicator stays on the bullish side of 50 the greater the likelihood of further USD appreciation against the ZAR.

the us dollar pulled back initially during trading on tuesday but turned around of form a nicelooking hammer we have been grinding higher for some time which makes sense considering that the world is a bit concerned about global growth which of course favors the us dollar over emerging market currencies in fact the south african rand has struggled even though gold has taken off to the upside which perhaps has something to do with fear more than gold markets because as most of you will know south africa is a huge exporter of the yellow metal
however the political situation in south africa isnt exactly stable and that has been expressed in this chart you can see that i have a grid laid out in equal distance something that this pair tends to follow quite well we have recently pulled back from the 1450 rand level only to find buyers again i think at this point we are trying to build up the necessary momentum to break out and reach towards 15 rand
