To the downside I suspect that the $18.00 level will continue to offer support, and beyond that I’m sure that we also see a massive support at the gap underneath which has yet to be filled near the $17.50 level. In other words, I think that a pullback makes quite a bit of sense as we have gotten a bit ahead of ourselves recently. Markets can’t go in one direction forever so I look at pullbacks as a potential opportunity and look at the same pullbacks as beneficial for the buyers. I would not be looking to sell this market even though I do think that we fall rather soon. Silver is accelerating its move higher as it plays catch-up with gold due to increased trade uncertainty, Brexit and global growth worries, factors that are all pushing precious metals higher, according to analysts.

At the time of writing, December Comex silver was up nearly 5% on the day and trading at $19.27 an ounce. Also, December Comex gold was last at $1,554.30, up 1.63% on the day.

The move in silver is driven by gold, said analysts as they reminded investors that the metal is usually much more volatile than gold.

“Silver is catching up here. It is getting a bid from gold. The U.S. dollar fell a bit. Rates again dropped significantly, and equity markets went into flux. Essentially what it meant to us is that we will get our $19-$20 silver target quicker,” TD Securities head of global strategy Bart Melek told Kitco News. “You would expect silver to outperform gold given the fact that it has double the volatility of gold.”

The gold-silver ratio moved from the July’s disappointing level of 93 to 81 on Tuesday and Melek said he wouldn’t be surprised to see that number fall down below 80.

From a historical perspective, silver always follows gold with the metal still remaining cheap even at these levels. “We had a significant period of time where gold was not doing great and silver did even worse. We’ve hit a peak underperformance in July when the ratio was at 93.3. Now it is very much catch-up,” added Melek.

Tuesday’s impressive move up was largely driven by weak manufacturing numbers out of the U.S., which revealed that the sector has contracted for the first time since 2016, said Rhona O'Connell, head of market analysis for EMEA and Asia regions at INTL FCStone.

The data showed that the ISM manufacturing index came in at 49.1% last month, missing market expectations of 51.1%.

O’Connell described silver’s price action as a “typical move” and added that silver is usually more extreme than gold.

“It is partly because it’s got the lower price and therefore is more accessible to more people. When the gold and silver are moving like this, you tend to find that silver moves further and faster and partly becomes a self-fulfilling argument,” O’Connell explained.

It is the current view that usdchf is continuing the downtrend. Making a top at 0.9845 Wednesday, January 10, usdchf continue the downtrend that start at the top at 0.9977, so we have enough reason to believe that usdchf continue the downtrend. Usdchf has now reached the lowest at 0.9697 which already broke the last bottom at 0.9699. Also, usdchf show strong momentum down still so usdchf possibly continue the downtrend.

In the 1day chart, we see the stoch(5,3,3) strongly showing downtrend and has not reached the bottom level yet, while the macd also still show downtrend signal and the bbands still has to bounced the lower side to be able to reverse.

Having broke the uptrend trendline now, we cannot say that eurusd will now continue the long-term downtrend. We still have several bottom/supports below to contend with, 1.1717 and 1.1553, which should hold eurusd from going down. Although eurusd has already made a long move down now, it is the view that eurusd will still continue down as it has still strong momentum. And with that we have bottom/supports at 1.1717 and 1.1553 as possible targets.
