i think big laverage its good ...
small laverage it means high lot...example: 1:200 1 pips maybe 10 usd....but if 1:1000 1 pip 1 dollar..so it can vioalting down and up about 50pips or 100pips if you have lot of money...

leverage setting is depend to the system trading that we use in my opinion.such as a martingale system would be hard to do if we set in low leverage because sometimes it need a large margin to get profit and it will be margin call if we use low leverage using martingale strategy.
