Ya these are two important things in trend, the direction of the trend, and time of entering the market. Some people like to use indicator to analyze the movement, but I would advice to analyze the trend by your own self first, then look at the indicators as some reference. If you wanna make big profit, it surely matters a lot that what time you open the trade, if you just wanna make some small profit, it would be much easier and more flexible, as long as you are trading within the range.

So far riding the trend works good for me. I usually open the chart, find some interesting pair to observe, draw some possible trend line if existing, and check some indicator as well, to see if it agrees with me, if so then it might be the good moment to do some trade.
