In terms of data, the inline ADP report was a solid preview of this week's nonfarm payrolls on Friday. ADP came in as expected at 190k vs 235k prior. Indeed, the focus instead stays with the Fed next week and the US economy in general with politics supporting the greenback of late.

As for the currencies, EUR/USD was better offered throughout the day on the back of lower Bund yields falling below support with euro to 1.1780 the low from 1.1840 the high. The yen was sideways between 111.99 and 112.64 while cable made recovery attempts from 1.3358 the low to 1.3448 the high after the UK appears to be failing to get an Irish border agreement and PM May remains under pressure to squeeze through a deal in the divorce package before next week.

Bond markets were elevated, squashing the benchmark yield on the US 10-year note to 2.3118% the low from 2.3616% while a modest pick was in play into the last hours of the NY session.

WTI has ended lower on Wednesday while the DXY was rising by 0.24% at 93.60 by the close between a range of 93.171 and 93.650. There was a drop in domestic crude supplies but also there was an unexpectedly large rise in gasoline inventories. Copper was a weight as well. AUD dropped to 0.7558 the low from 0.7635.

The GBP and EUR showed a good performance during the whole month. The EUR is a Strong currency and fits exactly with the current performance in the Classification and Score.

In the Currency Strength table, the EUR was the strongest currency again while the NZD was the weakest. There were some significant changes last month with the CHF gaining 4 points, the GBP 2 points, the USD losing 3 points. The other currencies remained around the same level of last month with a maximum change in the strength of just 1 point.

As December 5th is put in the record books, and the NZD is the strongest, while the EUR is the weakest. The USD is ending with modest gains against most of the major pairs but is lower vs the NZD and the AUD as commodities (like gold and silver) fell on the day.

The chart below shows the ATR 15 (15-day average of price volatility) for the three major currency pairs, and the average of the three, over the last ten years. The three majors are EUR/USD, GBP/USD, and USD/JPY. Together, they comprise over 80% of currencies exchanged worldwide by volume. The average of the three is market in the chart in black:

What is the most important thing that this chart can tell us? That volatility is at historically low levels, with each major Forex currency pair on average fluctuating by only about 0.60% in value over a typical day. Average volatility usually does not fall significantly lower than this, as a glance at the ten-year chart shows. The only time this �floor� was breached during the period was during the second and third quarters of 2014, when average volatility reached as low as 0.33%.

Low volatility usually means that it is difficult for traders to make money, and if you are finding it hard to make any money in the major Forex currency pairs right now, it might be because there is not a great deal of movement going on. After all, if the price isn’t really going anywhere, how can you take profit? You might think that volatility is all relative anyway – after all, isn’t taking 20 pips profit with a 10 pip stop loss just the same as 40 pips of profit with a 20 pip stop loss, if position sizing is equalized? Well, it doesn’t really work like that, partly because spreads and commissions don’t change, so are effectively “cheaper” when volatility is higher.

The strongest currency is the JPY.
The weakest currency is the CAD.

The USD ended mostly higher with declines only against the JPY and marginally vs the NZD (it is only down -0.04%). The USD had strong gains vs the CAD (on the back of more dovish BOC) and the AUD (up 0.58%). The GDP data out of Australia yesterday was the catalyst for the AUDUSD weakness. It is ending the day near the lows.

Looking at the ranges and changes (see below), the USDCAD shot up nearly 100 pips from yesterday's closing level (up 97 pips - see chart below), and also had a trading range (154 pips) which was way above its 22 day average. The BOC had a big impact today on that currency.

US treasury yields are lower. Two-year 1.804%, -1.4 basis points. Five-year 2.124%, -1.8 basis points. 10 year 2.338%, -1.2 basis points. 30 year 2.727%, -0.3 basis points.
US stock indices ended mixed and little changed. S&P index fell -0.1%. NASDAQ rose with 0.21%. Dow fell -0.16%
Bitcoin continued its surge higher and cracked above, and will close above the $13,000 level. The digital currency today traded with a $11,000 handle a $12,000 handle and a $13,000 handle. The low reached $11,696.90. The high extended to $13,461.18. We are currently trading at $13,369. Ain't no stopping that train!
