Passage of the tax bill and strong data would strengthen the case for more U.S. rate increases next year, a possibility which bond markets look unprepared for. The Fed is set to raise interest rates next week, but futures markets expect fewer than two rate increases next year.

Sterling was the only exception, gaining against a swathe of currencies amid relief that Britain and the European Union had struck a deal on Friday that will allow a second phase of talks to begin on the British exit from the EU.

As December 5th is put in the record books, and the NZD is the strongest, while the EUR is the weakest. The USD is ending with modest gains against most of the major pairs but is lower vs the NZD and the AUD as commodities (like gold and silver) fell on the day.

The USD ended mostly higher with declines only against the JPY and marginally vs the NZD (it is only down -0.04%). The USD had strong gains vs the CAD (on the back of more dovish BOC) and the AUD (up 0.58%). The GDP data out of Australia yesterday was the catalyst for the AUDUSD weakness. It is ending the day near the lows.

What is the most important thing that this chart can tell us? That volatility is at historically low levels, with each major Forex currency pair on average fluctuating by only about 0.60% in value over a typical day. Average volatility usually does not fall significantly lower than this, as a glance at the ten-year chart shows. The only time this �floor� was breached during the period was during the second and third quarters of 2014, when average volatility reached as low as 0.33%.

The USD/RUB pair is consolidating above 59.09. If later the instrument breaks this range to the upside, the market may continue growing towards 60.05; if to the downside – falling to reach 58.58

AUDUSD, "Australian Dollar vs US Dollar"
The AUD/USD pair is still falling; it has reached the target and expanded the consolidation range. We think, today the price may test 0.7554 from below and then resume falling with the target at 0.7470.

USDJPY, "US Dollar vs Japanese Yen"
The USD/JPY pair hasn't been able to continue the correction; it has broken 112.69 upwards and reached the upside target. We think, today the price may consolidate around 113.35. If later the instrument breaks this range to the upside, the market may reach 114.70; if to the downside – start another correction with the target at 112.69.
