Hearing the name Pakistan, maybe we will imagine its capital in a mess. But make no mistake, Islamabad is completely different! The city is spacious, modern and very green. Pakistan deliberately moved its capital from the already cramped Karachi to the purpose-built Islamabad.
Be Islamabad as the administrative capital where the center of government and embassies are located, while Karachi is more as the financial capital where the center of business is. By the way, Islamabad means "Islamic city". Century from the Urdu language means "city", so it is common in Pakistan to have city names ending in "century", for example Abbottabad and Eminabad.
Some places that must be visited are;
Faisal Mosque - named Fasial because this mosque was donated by King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. The architecture is unique because the mosque is not in the form of a dome but looks like a Bedouin tent. With a capacity of 10,000 people, this mosque was once the largest mosque in the world until 1993. The large white mosque sits on a hill making it a landmark of Islamabad.
Lok Virsa Museum - Pakistani culture with its diverse ethnicities is displayed in this vast ethnology museum. It is interesting to see the colorful traditional clothes, folk tales, mostly about love stories, and even though it is an Islamic state, the empowerment of women is so good that there are special displays of the achievements of Pakistani women ranging from singers to climbers of Mount Everest.
Taxila - About an hour from Islamabad, there is a very impressive archaeological site. The ruins are still there since the 6th century BC, deserving of being included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient city alone is mentioned in the story of the Mahabarata and Ramayana where it is called the beautiful city discovered by Barata. In the Jataka book of Buddhism, it is said that Taxila is the capital of the Gandhara Kingdom. This is where the oldest university in the world is located, namely the teaching site of Buddhism in the 1st century whose ruins we can see. Even Thomas, a disciple of Jesus, preached there.
