Throughout the 2020 MotoGP, Suzuki has not won a single series. However, Joan Mir believes Suzuki is one of the contenders for the title this season. MotoGP 2020 has been going on for five series. The best result that Suzuki achieved was when Mir was second on the podium in Austria. In the other four races, the Spaniard retired twice but always finished in the top five in the other two races in Andalusia and Styria. Mir actually could have won his first win at the Red Bull Ring. But Mir was harmed by an incident that caused the red flag to lose his position.
Currently Mir is in eighth place in the MotoGP standings with 44 points, just 26 points adrift of Petronas SRT rider Fabio Quartararo in the top position. With nine races remaining, Mir is confident he will be able to compete for the title with the leading riders.
"We have a great ride," said Mir, quoted by Tuttomotoriweb. "If we fight for victory here in Austria with Suzuki with a horsepower far below the other bikes it means we have a great bike, a bike that is well balanced."
Rins got the bad luck due to an accident before starting the first race. After missing Jerez, the number 42 finished tenth in Andalusia, then raced to finish fourth in Brno before finishing sixth in Styria. Rins is happy with Suzuki's development. "Yes, I must be happy because Suzuki took a big step in Austria. It is certain [we are] unlucky because Joan could have won her first race, but because of the red flag she failed."
"But the speed is there, I was also unlucky in the second race after the restart. But we should be happy enough," finished Alex Rins about Suzuki's performance.
