Seville Spanish Sevilla (About this soundlisten)) is the capital and largest city of the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia and the province of Seville. It is situated on the lower reaches of the River Guadalquivir, in the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula.

Seville was founded as the Roman city of Hispalis. It became known as Ishbiliyah after the Muslim conquest in 711. During the Muslim rule in Spain, Seville came under the jurisdiction of the Caliphate of Córdoba before becoming the independent Taifa of Seville; later it was ruled by the Muslim Almoravids and the Almohads until finally being incorporated into the Christian Kingdom of Castile under Ferdinand III in 1248. After the discovery of the Americas, Seville became one of the economic centres of the Spanish Empire as its port monopolised the trans-oceanic trade and the Casa de Contratación (House of Trade) wielded its power, opening a Golden Age of arts and literature. In 1519, Ferdinand Magellan departed from Seville for the first circumnavigation of the Earth. Coinciding with the Baroque period of European history, the 17th century in Seville represented the most brilliant flowering of the city's culture; then began a gradual economic and demographic decline as silting in the Guadalquivir forced the trade monopoly to relocate to the nearby port of Cádiz.

Seville is famous for architectural buildings, it has a high historical and artistic value for its lovers. One architecture that can be referred to you to visit is the Real Alcazar de Seville or the Real Alcazar Palace.
Real Alcazar is a palace that has a distinctive Moroccan architectural style with a blend of Islamic architecture with gothic, renaissance and baroque. This is because after the Moorish Arabs took control of Seville in 712, they began to build a palace that resembled a fortress, namely the Moor Palace which was formerly called Al-Muwarak. However, after being recaptured by the Christian Kingdom, King Pedro I then ordered again to build a new palace in the Al-Muwarak site complex which is now the Real Alcazar Palace.
The Real Alcazar Palace is one architecture that holds historical, cultural and artistic values that are united in real harmony. In fact, history states that the Real Alcazar Palace is an architecture that became the pinnacle of glory during the dark ages of Europe.
You will also find Palacio de Don Pedro which is an inscription that tells of the alliance of King Pedro I with the leader of the Islamic kingdom in Granada, Muhammad V. When King Pedro was about to build a new palace in the Alcazar, Muhammad V sent his best artists and produced architectural works that were with a unique blend of Iberian-Islamic art.

Giralda Tower
Giralda is a beautiful and tall tower built since the 12th century ago. The funny thing is, this tower has a twin, which is Hassan located in Rabat. Formerly, the skyscraper, which is a mosque, is an important symbol for Seville. However, after being taken over by Christians, this antique and beautiful building has now become the Seville Cathedral Church, even one of the largest in the world.

Mezquita in Spanish is mosquito or mosque. Opposite of Giralda Tower, this building was once a church that was built in the 600s. After the Umayyad dynasty conquered Spain, the Muslims bought this beautiful building and turned it into a mosque. In 987, construction was completed and named the Great Mosque of Cordoba. And about 300 years later, Cordoba was again ruled by the Catholic army and this mosque became a church. Even so, they still maintain their original form.

Once one of the highest religious buildings in the world, the former minaret of the mosque is now a bell tower for Seville Cathedral. La Giralda was once the minaret of the mosque which previously occupied the location where Seville Cathedral is now located. Built between 1184 and 1196, La Giralda is now one of the 3 minarets built by the Almohades, a Berber dynasty from Morocco that had occupied Spain in the 12th century. The other two minarets are in Rabat and Marrakesh. After Reconquista in 1284, Christians took over La Giralda and since then this structure has been a tower for Seville Cathedral.

La Giralda can be seen even from a distance. The tower rises high above the cathedral and the roofs of the buildings around it. Take a moment to pay attention to the beauty of the bells and a large bronze woman statue on the tower, which symbolizes their faith. This structure is actually a new addition to La Giralda, only added in the 16th century and makes it increase to 104 meters in height. Around the foot of the tower, you will find stone inscriptions from the Roman Emperor, Augustus. The original minaret was built using the remains of Roman ruins.
You can reach the inside of La Giralda through Seville Cathedral. End your cathedral tour by climbing the sloping stairs to the very top of the tower. La Giralda is in the Old City of Seville, on the east side of the Guadalquivir River. The tower is located close to other main attractions, such as the Royal Alcázar and City Hall. La Giralda's opening hours are the same as the cathedral's opening hours, and the entrance fee is included in the entrance fee to the cathedral.
