Current trend
Prices for gold increased moderately on Wednesday, noting a new local high since June 26. The instrument was supported by weak USD, as well as the continuing tensions in the trade relations between China and the US.
The prospect of further tightening of the Fed’s monetary policy is hampering a steadier growth of gold prices. New comments on this issue will be heard today, when the minutes of the Fed meeting are published. The market is also waiting for the release of the June report on the US labor market on Friday. Aggressive tone of statements in the minutes and a strong report on the labor market can contribute to the return of "bearish" sentiment on the instrument.
Support and resistance
Bollinger Bands in D1 chart demonstrate active decrease. The price range is narrowing, reflecting a sharp change of trend. MACD indicator reversed upwards again and formed a buy signal (located above the signal line). Stochastic grows almost vertically, receiving a strong "bullish" momentum from the growth of the instrument on Tuesday. Currently the oscillator is approaching its maximum levels, which indicates overbought gold in the ultra-short term.
Anyway, the current indicators do not contradict the further development of the "bullish" trend in the short term, so the existing purchases should be left open for some time.
Resistance levels: 1260.75, 1270.11, 1276.87, 1281.73.
Support levels: 1251.15, 1245.61, 1237.60.

To open long positions one can rely on the breakout of the level of 1260.75, while maintaining "bullish" signals from technical indicators. Take-profit — 1276.87 or 1281.73. Stop-loss – 1251.15. Implementation period: 2-3 days.

The July 6 tariff war has generated an immense amount of uncertainty in the market. Consequently, the market sentiment has switch from risk-on to risk-off. Investors seem to move their investments into gold. Actually, that’s one of the reasons why gold prices have soared to a one-week high today, rebounding from a six month low.
In addition to this, a weaker dollar is also extending support to the bullion due to its negative correlation factor.
Fundamentally, gold got all the bullish support since the U.S. is due to begin inflicting tariffs on Friday (July 6) on $34bn worth of imports from China. The demand for safe-haven assets is at its peak nowadays. Most probably, gold will continue trading the same sentiment until the release of U.S. non-farm payroll and implementation of tariffs on China. Next week is gonna be very exciting from a trading point of view.

Presently, gold is facing a resistance near $1,262 along with a support near $1,257. The 50 – periods EMA is supporting the bearish trend. The violation of $1,257 can extend the bearish rally towards $1,251. Whereas above $1,261, the market can stay bullish until $1,265.

Gold has been trading on a bearish trend for quite some time. It failed to break above the 100 SMA (green) at the beginning of the year despite trying several times. After that, the trend shifted to bearish.

To me, the bearish move of the last several months has been mainly technical because the market sentiment has deteriorated. That should have sent Gold surging as the ultimate safe-haven. The other safe-havens such as the CHF and the JPY have received some solid bids during this time. Yet, Gold continued to slide and it lost around $130 on that move.

But, as Arslan said in an earlier article today, Gold made a bullish reversal yesterday as the date for the beginning of the trade war approaches. The reason I’m saying this is because yesterday’s daily candlestick formed a bullish engulfing pattern. The bullish engulfing pattern is formed when the daily candlestick is bullish and is bigger than the previous bearish one.
