Gold prices were broadly unchanged during the Asian session on Wednesday at 1346.68, as traders await the conclusion of the Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting. While markets do not anticipate any changes to be made to interest rates when the Fed’s decision is announced Wednesday, expectations are high that the U.S. central bank will open the door to rate cuts later this year. Gold generally benefits from lower interest rates that reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. Offsetting expectations of a dovish statement is the increased risk appetite among investors following the announcement by President Trump of the resumption of trade talks with China.
