Philips Sport Vereniging (PSV Eindhoven) is one of the leading clubs in the Netherlands and in Europe. The club that was founded in 1913 is the master of the Eredivisie together with Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord. They have won the Eredivisie 21 times, including in the last four seasons. As the name implies, this club is owned and sponsored by Philips, a leading electronics manufacturer. Initially, this club was only created to accommodate the activities of Philips wealthy people who wanted to exercise, including football.
Their headquarters is the Philips Stadion. PSV is a club that has the same sponsorship and stadium since its inception until now. But for sponsorship in costumes, Erevidise only implemented it in 1982. Even so, PSV still holds the record in the Netherlands as the only club that has never changed sponsors in their costumes. This club is unique. Although they often give birth to star players, especially from their own country like Ajax, they also often become a stopover for players who will become stars in the future.
A clear example is Ruud Gullit. Before becoming a superstar at AC Milan, Gullit had competed at PSV. Likewise with two legendary Brazilian stars, Romario and Ronaldo. Romario played for PSV before being signed by Barcelona. PSV experienced its heyday in the mid to late 1970s. They dominated the domestic league and won the European title for the first time by winning the UEFA Cup in 1977/78 season.
The second golden period occurred when handled by cold-handed coach Guus Hiddink. He coached PSV from 1987 to 1990, then for the second time in 2002 to 2006. Hiddink managed to give the Champions League title in 1988 and several Eredivisie titles.
