Bruges is a city in northern Belgium designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Despite being a small city, Bruges offers many interesting tourist attractions that can be visited. Ranging from historical buildings, dining establishments that serve delicious food, to narrow cobbled streets that offer surprises in every corner. Bruges is known as one of the cities in Europe which is named 'The Venice of the North'. So called because of the many canals and rivers flowing through the city that remind people of Venice in Italy. Therefore, it is not complete if you visit Bruges without joining a canal tour.

By taking a canal tour, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the city from a different perspective. The price is relatively cheap, 8 euros for a half hour ride. I was very lucky because I got a good tour guide. Besides being knowledgeable and communicative, he is also fluent in guiding by using 4 languages.

A must-try in Bruges is french fries with mayonnaise. My favorite place is T Brugsch Friethuys. Apart from being relatively cheap compared to other places, it also tastes good with food choices and various flavors of dipping sauce. Do you know that French fries are actually from Belgium? Unfortunately many people think they came from France. During the First World War, hundreds of American soldiers were stationed in Belgium. During their life there, they often eat french fries. Because many Belgians speak French, the American army named French fries - French Fries.

    A Review On Bruges, Belgium

Bruges (About this soundlisten); Dutch: Brugge (About this soundlisten); German: Brügge is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country, and the seventh largest city of the country by population. The area of the whole city amounts to more than 13,840 hectares (138.4 km2; 53.44 sq miles), including 1,075 hectares off the coast, at Zeebrugge (from Brugge aan zee,[2] meaning "Bruges by the Sea"). The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. It is oval in shape and about 430 hectares in size. The city's total population is 117,073 (1 January 2008),of whom around 20,000 live in the city centre. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 616 km2 (238 sq mi) and has a total of 255,844 inhabitants as of 1 January 2008.
Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam and St Petersburg, it is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance, thanks to its port, and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities.

    Tourist Destinations

    1. Belfry (Belfort van Brugge)
The south side of Bruges' Markt (the main square) is dominated by the Halle with the belfry-Bruges' most distinctive landmark-soaring above it. The Halle was begun in 1248 and twice enlarged, first in the 14th century and then again in the 16th century, and once functioned as the city's main market place.

    2. Basilica of the Holy Blood
The Basilica of the Holy Blood (Heilig-Bloedbasiliek) presides over the central plaza known as the Burg or Burg Square. The church is famous for the crystal vial kept inside that is reputed to contain a drop of Christ's blood brought back from the Holy Land by Dietrich of Alsace in 1149 on his return from the Second Crusade.

    3. Markt
At the very heart of the city is the Markt; Bruges' bustling main square, surrounded on all sides by fine buildings from a variety of different periods. The eastern side is dominated by the Neo-Gothic Provinciaal Hof building which dates from 1887 and is the seat of the West-Vlaanderen provincial government.

    4. Town Hall
On the southeast side of the Burg is Bruges' Town Hall (Stadhuis), one of the oldest in Belgium, having been constructed between 1376 and 1420. The facade of the delicate Gothic building displays the strong vertical emphasis characteristic of the style, with soaring pilasters, three of which end in octagonal turrets, separated by tall Gothic arched windows.

    5. Liberty of Bruges
On the east side of Burg Square, the Bruges Tourist Office occupies part of what was, up until 1984, the Law Courts, built between 1722 and 1727 on the site of the former Liberty of Bruges (Paleis van het Brugse Vrije) from where independent magistrates exercised jurisdiction over the region.

    Visiting Bruges Market

Bruges Market is a square located in the heart of Bruges. This place is very beautiful because it is surrounded by colorful buildings with charming architecture. In this area you can find dozens of cafes, small shops that are unique, or just a place to relax while watching people passing by. This is where tourists gather. So prepare yourself to see the crowd coming from all directions.

When I was in Bruges I stayed at a small hotel called the Central Hotel which is located right on the square. Even when the taxi stopped in front of the hotel, we still could not believe how strategic the location was. But unfortunately this hotel does not have an elevator. As a result we had to carry the suitcase to the 3rd floor with a steep staircase ele

Bruges is the capital of West Flanders which is located in the north west of Belgium, about 97km from Brussels, 250km from Amsterdam, the Netherlands or 300km from Paris, France.
Its proximity to the main cities in Europe makes Bruges always crowded with foreign tourists. Do not be surprised if you meet people in different languages when visiting Bruges.
