A Review on Sofitel So Singapore Hotel

Sofitel So is a new designer label under the Sofitel, the luxury hotel brand, the symbol of French elegance in luxury hospitality worldwide. Sofitel So Singapore opens its doors on June 2014 and I made my way to its doors 6 months later in January 2015.
    Tourist destinations
    1 THE ISLAND OF MOROTAI
Locals who still remember World War II would tell visitors that back in 1944-145 Morotai was a hive of military activities with tens of sorties roaring daily from aircrafts taking off and landing at airstrips along Daruba Bay,endless stamping of thousands of military boots marching across the island, and navy ships anchoring daily carrying supplies and reinforcement. For Morotai back then, was the strategic base of the Allied Forces from which they attacked posts in the Philippines and Borneo in their fight against Japanese forces during World War II.
    2 Lake Kelimutu,
Mt Kelimutu National Park is the smallest among six national parks in the stretch between Bali and the Nusa Tenggara islands. Its size obviously does not matter much when it offers one of the most spectacular wonders that nature has to offer. There are three lakes on the mountain sharing the same name, Kelimutu, meaning ‘the boiling lake’. Each has its own colors and a local name. But all are believed to be the resting place of departed souls.
    3 Sawarna Beach,
The tourism village of Sawarna is the entry point to this natural wonder. As you enter the village, you will be greeted by lush green paddy fields, serene village ambiance, and refreshing breezes. Sawarna Beach is located at Gendol, Bayah District, Lebak Regency, in the province of Banten, Jakarta's neighbor to the capital's west. Sawarna Beach offers a host of natural wonders such as asits rushing river, lush forest, rocky hills, caves, and more. The beautiful landscape is also shrouded in the myth of “Nyi Roro Kidul”, the mythical Queen of the South Seas, besides being replete with the history of coal exploitation in the nearby areas of Bayah and Lebak.
4 Taman Safari, Modern Zoological Garden
Bogor Botanical Garden is located in Bogor city and spread about 87 hectares with the impressive out-of-town Bogor Presidential Palace fronting it and soaring Mt. Salak at its background and boasts over 400 species of palm trees, 5,000 trees gathered from around the tropical world, and an orchid house containing 3,000 varieties. Records show that the Bogor Botanical Gardens harbours 3,504 plant species, 1,273 genus in 199 families.

    Sofitel So Singapore Hotel

Housed in a 1920s heritage building that was once home to the Telecommunications Authority of Singapore, Singapore’s first Sofitel brings 19th century French flourishes with a dash of designer flamboyance to the heart of the Central Business District.

    Location
For easy access to the Central Business District (Raffles Place, Chinatown, Marina Bay), its Robinson Road address is unrivalled. The nearest MRT stations – Downtown MRT station and Telok Ayer MRT station – are about 10 minutes by foot. A taxi ride to Marina Bay Sands will take no more than 5 to 10 minutes depending on traffic.

    Services and Facilities
The “ambassadors” in Lagerfeld-designed couture fronting the reception desk are sharp, polite and oh-so-efficient. But, there are service lapses elsewhere. We reported a breakdown of our in-room iPhone and, despite a reminder, the phone remained unfixed for more than 12 hours up until checkout. A request to tidy up the room during the evening also required two follow-up calls before action kicked-in.

    Rooms

Fashioned in ornate French style with local accents, all 134 rooms and suites feature a clutch of distinctive design elements including a French cupola-inspired ceiling light box resembling a glass dome, an orchid-patterned felt board as well as a painting of Napoleon alongside framed photos of Singapore street scenes. Views are not the hotel’s strong suit but the in-room amenities – including Illy coffee machine, French-made bath amenities (including “his” and “hers” toiletries) and a thoughtful mix of free and chargeable drinks and snacks - plus free Wi-Fi - more than make up for it.

    Food and Drink
Apart from Hi-So, a rooftop pool bar perched on level six, there’s Xperience where Singapore’s first female French chef, Anne-Cecile Degennes, fields a menu of classics and fusion dishes (think foie gras pork dumpling with black truffles and braised wagyu short ribs with truffled gnocchi). While you’re here, don’t miss the festivity of tucking into satay, oyster omelette and other hawker fare at Lau Pa Sat; it’s no more than a skip, a hop and a jump away from the hotel.
