Attachment 22577
Associazione Calcio Fiorentina was founded by an Italian aristocrat and National Fascist Party member Luigi Ridolfi, who united 2 clubs in the city of Florence, namely CS Firenze and PG Libertas. The aim is to rival clubs from western Italy. Another factor was because Calcio Fiorentino was one of the clubs that played a role in introducing modern football in Italy, at that time it still consisted of the Medici family, one of the Italian mafia families.
Great players like Brian Laudrup, Stefan Effenberg, Francesco Baiano and Gabriel Batistuta, club icons for the Fiorentina of the 1990s. In 1993 Matteo Cecchi Gori died and was succeeded by his son, Vittorio. At the end of Matteo's first season as president, Fiorentina was relegated to Serie B. In the 93/94 season, Claudio ranieri served as coach and led Fiorentina to win Serie B and climbed to series A. To support Batistuta as top scorer, he brought Rui Costa and Marcio Santos. At the end of the season Viola was in 10th position.
Then Stefan Schwarz was brought in to realize the ambition of winning the Serie A. The results were pretty good, at that season Fiorentina won the Coppa Italia and finished 3rd.
In the 95/96 season, the Fiorentina achievement was rather disappointing. However, Viola made it to the UEFA Cup semifinals that year. At the end of the season, Claudio Ranieri moved to coach Valencia FC, and was instead appointed by Alberto Malesani. He only lasted for one year, then as successor was appointed Giovanni Trappattoni. At the end of the season, Fiorentina finished 3rd, as a condition they play in the UEFA Champions League. Although their achievements were disappointing in Serie A, in the Champions League competition they made it through to the last 16.
In the 09/09 season. Fiorentina made it through to the last 4 of Serie A and following the 09/10 Champions League. In this edition of the Champions League, as we all know, Fiorentina managed to get away with becoming group winners and face Bayern Munich in the round of 16. but eventually Fiorentina was eliminated from the Champions League
