from my experience i can tell you that a real trend should be drawn to at least three tops or three bottoms of three candles which have a good space between each other.

when High higher than the previous high is happening now, so I call it a downtrend, (at least 2 high is lower than the highest high) and vice versa, then I pull the trendline from the high / low to high / low nearby, only that

many times, i identify the good trend using trendline and support and resistent. sometimes i can make a mistake and the trend is againts me, but we must know that market many times become unpredictable

for me to identify the trend in my chart use stochastic indicator and combine with pivot point, when price on S2 and R2 ussually price in area overbought and oversold. just like that only.
