Attachment 22511
Saint Petersburg, or Petersburg, is the second largest city in Russia after Moscow. The city is also one of the favorite tourist destinations of tourists, especially in the summer when there is a natural phenomenon of midnight sun or white night. Geographically, Saint Petersburg is located in the northwestern region of Russia, at the mouth of the Neva River and on the shores of the Gulf of Finland, a bay overlooking the Baltic Sea. The population of the city was around 5 million in 2012. The name of the city was changed to Petrograd, then to Leningrad, and eventually returned to Saint Petersburg. The main landmarks in the city include the Hermitage Museum, Peter & Paul Fortress, Senate Square, Winter Palace, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, and Church of the Savior on Blood. From Moscow, Saint Petersburg can be reached by train or airplane through the Pulkovo International Airport (LED) airport
The prestigious World Travel Awards has crowned St. Petersburg in Russia as the best tourist destination in Europe for the second time since 2015. The World Travel Awards itself is an award event that is likened to the "Oscar" in the tourism industry and was founded in 1993. The city, dubbed "Venice of the North", developed from a Tsar settlement in 1703. Gradually, canals and bridges were erected on the beautiful river Neva. In fact, it had become the capital of Russia before Moscow.
Although it is no longer used as the nation's capital, St. Petersburg still inherits the typical beauty of the Baltic Sea. Many magnificent Renaissance buildings stand along the road. As a silent witness of the golden age of the Russians. No wonder then, UNESCO established St. Petersburg as one of the world heritage sites. Inside this historic city there are more than 36 historic complexes.
