The GBP / USD pair rose higher during the session on Friday, stretching towards the 1.6250 level. This area is a significant resistance, but ultimately. I need to see the pair breaking above the 1.63 handle at the daily close to buy and hold, because the market will be much higher. At that point, it might catch up to the 1.65 level before everything is said and done. With that happening, I feel this market can retreat around this generality, but that will only be an exercise in building momentum when we try and break above what has been a pretty stubborn resistance.

The Pound continues to trade bearish against the US dollar after the massive slide following the Parliament vote on the latest withdrawal agreement. At the time of writing, GBP/USD is trading at around 1.2850.

On Tuesday, PM Boris Johnson managed a majority support from MPs for his latest Brexit deal, but his hopes were dashed almost immediately after the Parliament rejected his three-day timetable to get it passed. This development resulted in Johnson announcing his decision to put the Brexit Bill on hold even as the EU now has a choice to make on whether or not to grant the UK Parliament yet another extension on the Brexit deadline.

The UK Parliament has now requested an extension until January 31, which should give Britain enough time to hold a snap general election as it looks desperately to avoid a no-deal Brexit scenario. GBP/USD Trades Above 1.29 as Markets Await EU Confirmation on Brexit Extension

Early on Thursday, the Pound is trading steady against the US dollar above the 1.29 level as markets wait in hope for the EU to grant Britain another extension on Brexit. At the time of writing, GBP/USD is trading around 1.2910.

Despite his plans being rejected by the Parliament, UK PM Boris Johnson still maintains that he is not keen to delay Brexit and would opt for general elections if Brexit gets delayed till January 31, 2020. There are also expectations that the EU may grant a shorter extension to ratify the Brexit Bill.

The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, has been meeting with EU27 leaders to secure their agreement in granting Britain another extension on Brexit. Tusk insists that the EU is only interested in avoiding a no-deal Brexit, which could have severe ramifications not just for the British economy but for the EU economy as well.

The next meeting between EU diplomats on this issue is scheduled for Friday, while meetings among EU leaders are expected to continue. So far, reports suggest that France wants to grant Britain a shorter extension than the three-month extension they have requested for.
