SMA is my favorite moving average indicator, by using it a trader can easily find whether market is volatile or in trend; as ADX mentions it as well. Ichimoku is another great indicator for its moving average portions. In my opinion, ichimoku is only self fulfilling indicator.

I also prefer to trade using support and resistance level since I find it rather convenient to use and also they are more reliable than the pivot points. I use the support and resistance levels in combination with the candlestick patterns for my analysis.

If you use the cross signal between two moving averages, then you should have wait until it's a clear cross. What I mean by clear crossing is that wait until the signal candle (where the crossing happened) to close then only the cross can be considered as a valid signal and will not repaint.
