You can't open or edit your position when the market is close. that's why I always put sl and tp in my open position or close it before friday's end and open a position on monday. In case I have an open account on friday I make sure that either way the price will go I'm covered. I found the same problem and I am in the midst of trying different approaches. The only way I've found so far is to change the order pending a market order (based RefreshRates) and return it. You can change the price open a pending order, but then you are caught in the no-fly zone (130 error, meaning that your price is too close to the market and you must use a market order). There is no advertising brokerage 1 pip-fly zones but I do not know how reliable they are or what the fine print really says you can do.

That would depend on the traders strategy as to whether the order should be closed on the day itself or may be kept open, short term intrraday traders should do it on regular basis but long term traders keep that open for long and benefit from long term price change.
