if I prefer shortterm strategy, because the profit targets are met we can close trading in 1 day. and do not need to see the chart for days.
I do not use the longterm, because not having the ability and expertise to analyze fumdamental. and in my opinion requires a big capital to keep the power margin in the event that market movement away from our entry. besides that we sometimes we have to look at the chart for days.

It was make many orders in a day, So we can make our trade not bore. If we are use long term strategy we will make our trade not going well. If we are type of patient person we can try to use long term system like intraday or swing strategy. It was more suitable for us i think.

it's depend investor i think very long time trader generate good revenue in currency markets. now i am industry part time however next time i would like full time investor because i understand long time buying and selling with very long time analysis earn in forex currency trading.

Both are good ways to trade, but it depends on the trader itself to decide, For me i prefer short term trading since i dont have enough time to trade and i do trading on a part time basis. And i believe for a full time time trader both are necessary. Just add set stop loss in each trading.I think trading in a long term plan is the Best method for forex trading, earning in long term basis is the best compared to a short term trade. Long term earning gives long term earnings and profits.

If you have good capital then you can try to trade for the long term as you will able to get good result of such trading. In case of the short term trading you will get diverted due to the emotional factors lot of time. so it is better to trade for long time with low risk.

Longterm i think is better we will survive for long term and get long income, but it is not as easy as one thinks. We still have to work harder if they want to succeed with forex. I believe that forex has never broken its promise.

I have small amount of invest so i make short term trades. Short term trades are focused on short time periods. So i can return back my invest with some profit. But if i had huge money, i would rather invest in long term trades which offer much more profits.
We need survive and enough periods to get good result, i think that if you trade carefully in it and if you trade after proper analysis then you can earn more from it.so i think that it will help you the most to earn more from it.

I am more inclined to long term trading, I think long term it frees us from the burden of a severe mental, for me personally, after I analyze overall trends, the probability of up / down, ect I will do pending order / instant execution, and then I closed my MT4.
I would see it again after a few hours ahead, to see if the hit TP / SL

it seems you are a merchant scapling because you are using a 5-minute time frame in your trade and I will do my trades using intraday trade and so I need to involve all the existing time frame to observe the market conditions at that time

i mostly prefer to use short term trading system, i love scalping. i do not have good mental and emotions to see my open positions get floating. it makes me see the indicator so often. so i better use short term trading system. i think long term analysis need much more experience about trading so as a newbies and low experienced trader i prefer short term trading. i just open a position and wait for short times like 1 to 7 hours until my Take profits get hit.

Are you sure, short term traders face less losses than long term traders. In my view there is no single trader who can rightly predict future direction for all his trades so most of the time he take losses, while long term traders may well benefit from long term price appreciations provided they esnured that they entered the trade with an instrument with good fundamentals.

Yes, short term trading are really beneficial for beginners as the profit is instant here and they can gain confidence out of such practice. Where as long term trading can be learned through these experiences in a continuous manner. Long term trading are more rewarding and stable in nature. But they are slow and highly reliable.

Long term trading is not so risky because the indicators signs more well than on lower timeframes. Altough higher timeframes gives you less entry points and exit point, but those point (if you follow them) gives you a lot more more money, too than on lower timeframe positions. Lower stress, less work, less risk, more profit, that is why I choosen higher timeframe trading, and longer positions.

I have recently come to this conclusion as well.
Trying to guess the direction of the Eur/Usd every few days I have MISSED the longer term picture and MISSED out on PROFIT.

I think longer term trading could be very enjoyable, slowly increasing your position as it moves in your favour.

With all of the information the major banks, and trading floors have in their favour, I'm starting to see that the average joe scalper/swing trader sitting infront of their home computer is blind as a bat compared to the big boys.

So why do it? It's FUN! All of you reading these forums I'm sure have a gambling side. Perhaps this is a major weakness??

However I am completely clueless for long term entry and stop loss strategies. I would have a difficult time stomaching a 100+ pip loss.

Can anyone recommend good reading material for longer term fx trading??

It depends on your system ,your trading style and the amount of time you want to allocate to forex. I prefer the longer time frames because i watch the charts less and the gains are much and i do not over trade or over expose myself daily.

I prefer to do both of them, if I can't see the trend in long term, I can be short term trader who gain small pips in each trades, but when I see there is long term trend I will take that chance and perhaps I can make about 200 up to 300 pips in each my trades. :)

4 hours of time for trading, in my opinion is quite a long time. I also am learning to be shorter in the front of the chart, but it is very difficult.
because when the position is open, then the feeling of being worried, and always wanted to observe the price. but long term trading is a peace of mind... you will have plenty of time to think and analyze the market and execute your trade at the perfect position... And it can saves you most of the time... but you need big capital to trade on long term.. because with low capital you cant make big money... But I like short term trading because it suits my personality...

That is very true, Mate! Even if we are a good trader with lot of experiences time, we will face little difficulties and distraction to make any instant decision in short period of times and be held under high pressure and tension. That will makes us make any high potentially fail decision. So, for me, I prefer to trade with long term strategy since it gives me more times to think and count many consideration before take any decision.
