Ilulissat, comfortable and quiet a small town in Greenland, the locals are friendly. to travel around the city , you don't need to rent a car, you can enjoy this city by walking. there are taxi too if you don't like to walk. because at this time, it's going to be summer, the road is more barren, dusty and lots of mosquitoes.

For the weather in Greenland, especially in Ilulissat, the sun is hot, but cold, sometimes below 10C, sometimes around a dozen. sometimes the wind is very strong. The first experience for me is, 24 hours sun shines, meaning there is no night. sunset and sunrise occur at the same time.

There is no shopping in Greendland, no shaking bars, no cool entertainment. Greenland is nature, Greenland is synonymous with ice. food choices are also not much. Greenland is expensive and anti-mainstream. maybe, for some people.

Sisimiut, the second largest city in Greenland. I used the two-hour stop at this time to see first hand a sled dog or sled dog, one of the cultural identities in this country. yes, it is in Sisimiut that tourists can take dog sled adventures. The dog sledding attraction is one of The Big Arctic Five, five unique experiences that are sought after tourists during adventure in Greenland.
The other four are getting acquainted with pioneer natives, seeing auroras, enjoying the charm of the ice sheet, and getting to know various types of whales. But sled dogs are only permitted in cities in the northern Arctic Circle. This aims to to preserve the original quality of these wolf dogs.
With hunting instincts and thick coats to protect them from extreme temperatures below zero degrees, Greenland sled dogs have been a mainstay of land transportation in residential areas in the Arctic Circle since more than 5,000 years ago.

in Greenland, the local house is small. Even the locals aren't used to having big parties to commemorate special events like birthdays, marriage and others. Greenland residents prefer to host kaffemik. You must be wondering, what is kaffemik? Kaffemik is a meeting between citizens to establish familiarity.
Residents as host will invite friends or family, then serve a dish of coffee, tea and cakes which is usually homemade. If there are more guests and the place is full, there is an interesting etiquette. The first guest came and stopped by for a long time required to go home to invite the last guest.

Ilulissat in West Greenland, 200 km North of the Arctic Circle This is where you can walk along the trail through the Arctic Trundra to witness the Ilulissat Fjord, a World Heritage Site. This fjord is home to a very large iceberg who has separated from Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the most active glaciers in the world.

This is worth the early morning climb along the path to see the views of the Ilulissat Fjord. Some of the icebergs in the bay bigger than apartment buildings. There is a picnic table and a park bench on a hill, so people can sit comfortably while enjoying the view.

the Greenland residents know how to choose a fantastic location. The mountains are covered with snow, stand above this village. This is an unforgiving environment, but the local population thrives here. Colorful houses on a coral beach welcomed us. Impossible to explore Greenland use a car, so the way to explore this country is
by expedition ship or airplane.

As the largest island in the world, Greenland, which is included in the Danish territory, is rarely visited by tourists. Noted every year, less than 100,000 tourists visit "Green Island". That means, a vacation to Greenland is like owning a vast landscape.

There are some of the best tourist destinations around Greendland:

Camping in the Snowbank Area
About 80 percent of Greenland is covered with thick ice every year. The one who managed to 'conquer' the ice pack in Greenland for the first time was a Norwegian explorer named Fridtjof Nansen. In 1888 Fridtjof led a small team of several adult men attract light sled and camping in the snowbank every night.
You have the opportunity to sleep in a warm sleeping bagand spend the night in a tent that is likely to be covered in ice the next day.

Kaffemik tradition
Kaffemik is a tradition of local residents in the form of a meeting between citizens with the aim of establishing intimacy. Residents who act as the host will invite friends or family then serve a dish of coffee, tea and cakes.

Riding the Sled
Visit Greenland in winter to feel the sensation of riding a sled which is pulled by a pack of dogs, you can feel for several hours to several days. Nanu Travel in the city of Ittoqqortoormiit offers a three-hour sled ride to the city of Kap Tobin. This tour package includes a stop at a hot spring and the chance to see polar bears and seals

The resident of Greenland are Inuit people or also called Eskimos. They only occupy coastal areas, because almost 80 percent of Greenland itself, especially the middle is glaciers and ice. Then how is the life of the people there?
Uummannaq is a remote village in Greenland. The village is located in the northwestern part of the population, with only around 1,300 people inhabited since the 1700s.
This village is a remote village that is really difficult to reach. It took more than 24 hours to fly from Iceland by taking the Air Greenland airline to the city of Qaarsut, then continued by helicopter for about 30 minutes to Uummannaq.

If you want to see directly the river water flowing between the land ice, Blue River is the place to be. Blue River or Blue River comes from the Petermann Glacier which melts due to warm temperatures. In addition, the bright blue color of the water comes from a glacial silt.

WELCOME TO ILULISSAT

"Velkommen til Ilulissat!" Welcome to Ilulissat. There was an audio voice of the ship captain who suddenly filled the room. Although I was 4 hours late from the original estimate due to sea ice conditions the night before, I finally arrived at the city of my final destination.

Located in the West Greenland region, about 350 km north of the Arctic Circle, Ilulissat is the perfect place to enjoy the evening sun. Yes, the words "sun" and "night" are rarely juxtaposed together in a sentence. One is synonymous with bright light. Meanwhile, others refer to a dark atmosphere without light. But in areas that fall within the Arctic Circle zone or the Arctic Circle, the sun's presence at midnight is not something strange.

The evening sun or midnight sun is a term local residents call a natural phenomenon that occurs every summer when the sun shines for 24 hours. This is when the traditional concept of time loses its meaning and the day seems endless. Also in the city is the Ilulissat Icefjord, Greenland's first World Heritage Site filled with hundreds of iceberg faults from the Sermeq Kujalleq or the Jakkobshavn Glacier, one of the most active glaciers in the world.

Recent climate changes have made glaciers melt faster. Iceberg fractures with heights that can reach more than 100 meters above sea level flood the Disko Bay at the mouth of the glacier every year. Not surprisingly, this city got the name Ilulissat, which in Kalaallisut language itself means "iceberg". Kalaallisut is a language spoken by the people of Grendland apart from Danish and English.
