It is the current view that usdchf is continuing the downtrend. Making a top at 0.9845 Wednesday, January 10, usdchf continue the downtrend that start at the top at 0.9977, so we have enough reason to believe that usdchf continue the downtrend. Usdchf has now reached the lowest at 0.9697 which already broke the last bottom at 0.9699. Also, usdchf show strong momentum down still so usdchf possibly continue the downtrend.

USD-JPY saw a modest downward drift, although in context of overall narrow ranges, with the pair maintaining a consolidation pattern below the seven-month high seen in early December at 109.72. Dollar weakness floated Cable to a three-day high, at 1.3023, while the pound lost a little ground to the euro. The new president of the European Commission, von der Leyen, put out a not-unreasonable dose of Brexit reality by arguing in an interview with Les Echos that it will take longer than 11 months for the EU and UK to reach a new trade agreement. This comes after UK PM Johnson last week pitched that a deal would be done by the end 2020. We are taking the view that Johnson will eventually back down and allow for an extension in the post-Brexit transition period.

Gold futures for February delivery on New York’s COMEX settled up $24.30, or 1.6%, at $1,552.40 per ounce after the drone strike near Baghdad airport that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander who led Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ Quds force. Tehran has vowed to avenge Soleimani’s death, which President Donald Trump ordered.

It hit a session high of $1,556.05, a peak since Sept 6. The 1.6% jump on COMEX gold was also the most in a day since Aug. 23. The yellow metal is also less than a 1% gain away from its highest price since April 2013, putting it at a potential six-year high even before it reaches the $1,600 level.
