In the short term (1-8 weeks), the technical outlook for the US dollar (USD) against the Norwegian krone (NOK) is negative, as we have seen lower highs and lower lows since USDNOK peaked in July. This pair is trading above SMA 50, to get good positive support that will enhance the chances of a continuation of the bullish scenario over the short and medium term, awaiting a visit to 0.9965 as a next stop. Therefore, we will maintain our bullish outlook for the coming period unless the 0.9850 level is broken and stability below it.
SD/NOK traded higher on Thursday, after it hit support at 8.625, near the short-term uptrend line drawn from the low of February 1st. On the 8th of the month, the rate emerged above 8.605, that way completing a non-failure swing bottom formation. Even after the rate tested the 8.725 zone and corrected sharply lower, the setback remained limited above 8.605. This, combined with the fact that the rate remains above all three of our moving averages, keeps the near-term picture positive.
That said, we would like to see a clear break above 8.670, which is yesterday’s high, before we get confident on another leg higher. Such a break could set the stage for another test at the 8.725 hurdle, near Monday’s high. If this level fails to stop the bulls this time, its break would confirm a forthcoming higher high on the 4-hour chart and may allow extensions towards 8.762, marked by an intraday swing high formed on January 3rd.
Shifting attention to our short-term oscillators, we see that the RSI rebounded from near its 50 line, while the MACD is positive and, although below its trigger line, shows signs that it could start bottoming as well. These indicators suggest that the rate may start gaining upside momentum again soon, which supports the notion for some further recovery, at least in the short run.

The USD/NOK currency pair reached the resistance level formed by the monthly R1 at 8.7318 and reversed south.
Technical indicators for both short and long terms suggest that the exchange rate is in the oversold zone, thus, it is likely that bearish momentum prevails in the following sessions. It is likely that the pair targets the support cluster formed by the monthly PP and the Fibonacci 61.80% retracement in the 8.5000 area.

USD/NOK traded higher on Thursday, after it hit support at 8.625, near the short-term uptrend line drawn from the low of February 1st. On the 8th of the month, the rate emerged above 8.605, that way completing a non-failure swing bottom formation. Even after the rate tested the 8.725 zone and corrected sharply lower, the setback remained limited above 8.605. This, combined with the fact that the rate remains above all three of our moving averages, keeps the near-term picture positive.
That said, we would like to see a clear break above 8.670, which is yesterday’s high, before we get confident on another leg higher. Such a break could set the stage for another test at the 8.725 hurdle, near Monday’s high. If this level fails to stop the bulls this time, its break would confirm a forthcoming higher high on the 4-hour chart and may allow extensions towards 8.762, marked by an intraday swing high formed on January 3rd.

Preparing for the meeting of the central bank of Norway
The next meeting of the central bank of Norway (Norges bank) will be held on March 21, 2019. Is there a possibility for the Norwegian krone to strengthen?
On the USDNOK chart, it looks like a downward movement. Market participants expect a rate hike by the Norwegian central bank amid high inflation of 3% in February of the current year. Since June 2018, it has exceeded the target level of 2.5%. Let us note that Norges Bank, for the first time in the last 7 years, announced a possible rate hike in March 2019 from 0.75% to 1% at its October meeting last year. By the end of 2019, the rate can be once again raised to 1.25%. This is a positive factor for the Norwegian krone exchange rate.
On the daily timeframe, USDNOK: D1 approached the support trend of the rising trend. Before opening a sell position, it should be breached down. Most technical analysis indicators formed sell signals. A downward movement may be formed in case of a rate hike by the Norwegian Central Bank and negative data in the US.
The Parabolic Indicator gives a bearish signal.
The Bollinger bands have narrowed, which indicates low volatility. Both Bollinger bands are titled down.
The RSI indicator is below 50. It has formed a weak, negative divergence.
The MACD indicator gives a bearish signal.
The bearish momentum may develop in case USDNOK falls below is last fractal low and the lower Bollinger band at 8.5. This level may serve as an entry point. The initial stop loss may be placed above the last fractal high, the Parabolic signal and the upper Bollinger band at 8.82. After opening the pending order, we shall move the stop to the next fractal low following the Bollinger and Parabolic signals. Thus, we are changing the potential profit/loss to the breakeven point. More risk-averse traders may switch to the 4-hour chart after the trade and place there a stop loss moving it in the direction of the trade. If the price meets the stop level (8.82) without reaching the order (8.5), we recommend to close the position: the market sustains internal changes that were not taken into account.
