I think the minimum time period for trading in demo is the 3-4 months or till the traders starts earning consistent profit in his demo account. I have started my demo trading 2 months ago and I am still trading in demo so that I can learn all the basics of forex.

i think there is not time for trading in demo account. but at least you learn trading in demo accunt six months. after six months trading you feel that you are able to manage account and able to make some profit then we go for real account.
i still trade in demo account. but next month i will trade with real account.
you can just do a demo trading when you have entered in live trading. I usually do that when I found a new system that I think is pretty good and profitable, but I'm still not convinced to use it. I'll try it at least within 3 months.
