Manufacturing PMI index calculation
PMI index is calculated based on the results of several surveys compiled into a number hanging from one of the possible answers of any questions. Questions and answers can be different for each survey institution, but the fundamental question for the manufacturing sector are:

- The number of new orders (new orders)
- Output of production (factory output)
- Total employment (employment)
- The delivery time of materials or material suppliers (suppliers' delivery time)
- Availability of supporting the production of goods purchased (stocks of purchases)
The common answer is: no improvement (improvement) or unchanged (no change).

Formula for calculating the PMI index is determined from the weight of each question and then multiplied by 1.0 to answer improvement, 0.5 for no change and 0 for deterioration or worsening (deterioration). If the end result index number above 50.0 indicates expansion of the manufacturing sector and below 50.0 indicates contraction or decline in manufacturing sector output.

The frequency and timing of the release
Manufacturing PMI index released once a month at the beginning of each month. Release of data in the current month is the data for the previous month. For the Euro area there are two releases that Flash and Final. Flash is the estimated figure for the index of current month and usually released at week 3 month running.

Influence on stock prices and exchange rates
Manufacturing PMI index rose suggests optimism manufacturing businesses that attract investors to this sector.
