this is a very basic question.you should learn a lot about forex market.currencies are major thing and you trade with currencies by buying and selling.
If you got news,The number of jobless in USA increases.It means the value of USD decreases.So,you should sell USD.

high leverage does not bring high loss but it can help you to trade with minimum currency in this trading business . the higher loss is to trade with high lot size suppose you are trading with 1.00 dollar lot size and the market goes against you by 1 pip you will lose 10 dollar which is due to high leverage/
