Do these contests contribute any benefit to the trader aside from the prizes that could be won? What do you think? If so, on the contrary would there be any disadvantage?

Yes, demo contest gives sufficient reason to put maximum efforts becuase it is not just like playing a game and we get reward for the outstanding performance if we can deliver it.

yes you are right that in demo contest trader try to do give best performance but the aim is only win the contest.
in contest we can improve our trading scalping trading skill with using high risk.
but one thing is best in contest we can not follow money management.

ya forex contest in demo account is useless thing because there is no emotion in demo account . but in real trading we came across to emotions which is our graetest enemy in forex
